This weekâs announcement of the Cannes lineup didnât really indicate the business ahead for people traveling to the festival, since most of them will be enmeshed in the grueling work of the market at the festival. Meanwhile, in another parallel universe, TVâs upfronts continue as networks and streamers attempt to please advertisers with their latest offerings.
But are these worlds so dissimilar?
In this weekâs Screen Talk, Eric Kohn is joined by guest co-host Tony Maglio, IndieWireâs executive business editor, to answer the question, âWhat the hell are upfronts?â and why they might have more similarities to the film business than many people realize. The pair also discuss Amazonâs rebranding of IMDbTV, WarnerMedia Discoveryâs plans for the future, and âRussian Dollâ Season 2 (no spoilers!).
Kohn is also joined at the top of the episode by IndieWireâs David Ehrlich and Kate Erbland to discuss some of the key takeaways from this weekâs Cannes news. Stay tuned for additions to the lineup and more Cannes chatter as Screen Talk co-host Anne Thompson returns from vacation next week.
